The Probationary Semester

For many members of the Jefferson Society one’s semester as a Probationary includes their fondest memories, their toughest moments and a period of incredible personal growth. From meeting new people, engaging with new ideas for the first time, stepping outside one’s comfort zone and forming lifelong friendships, the probationary semester can be both incredible and daunting at the same time. With a series of quantitative and qualitative requirements to gain full access to regular membership in the Society, Probationaries demonstrate their interest in and dedication to the values of the organization. Such requirements include presenting an intellectually stimulating speech, debate, or original literary piece, attending a required number of meetings, and engaging with a specified number of regular and probationary members of the society. If you would like to learn more about what the process entails, email the Society’s Probationary Chair, Ms. Anna Goodell.
